Dress Code for Members and Guests
In general, casual dress and shorts are permitted for dining on the deck. Collared shirts are preferred. Caps are not to be worn in the Clubhouse. Swim wear must be covered. Appropriate attire (coat and tie) for special events is appreciated although not required. A dinner jacket is expected at a few events each summer and will be noted. Blue jeans, bathing suits, and T-Shirts are not acceptable clothing.
Reservations for Deck Dining
Reservations are always appreciated even for casual dining on the deck although specific tables cannot be held or guaranteed. Seating on the deck is strictly first come first served even with reservations. Members are welcomed to wait in the bar until a table becomes available.
Reservations for Special Events
Members are kindly requested to please reserve for special events in a timely fashion; a week in advance is not too early, nor is 24 hours too late. Please let the staff know if you are part of a larger party and would like to be seated together or if you would prefer a private table. Members are encouraged to accept a receipt for their charges. If a member would prefer not to receive a paper receipt, please inform the manager and your request will be noted for the season. Receipts do not need to be signed. Members should review their charges in a timely manner and notify the manager if there is an error.
A finance charge of 1% per month will be added to all bills for any past due amount over 60 days.
Smoking is prohibited in the Club and on the deck. Smoking is allowed on the front piazza and the front and side stairs and walkways only. Containers are provided for discarded cigarettes.
Cellular Telephones and Internet Usage
Mobile telephone use is not permitted in the public areas of the Club. The Club is connected with a wireless network system. Members are welcome to use this service while visiting the Club.
General Electronic Communication with the Membership
Communication with the membership on the website, Facebook page, or through YHRR emails should be limited to social activities to be enjoyed by all the members. No solicitation or business networking is appropriate. Members’ privacy is particularly prized and should be respected.
All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the Club and no other alcoholic beverages may be brought onto the property. All alcoholic beverages purchased from the Club must be consumed on the property of the Club. Wine or alcohol that was specially ordered for a specific event and not completely consumed at that event may, if properly stored, be taken from the Club premises. All laws for transportation of wine or alcohol must be obeyed. No one under the age of 21 may purchase or consume alcoholic beverages on the property of the Club. Any member who is found to have provided any alcoholic beverage for a minor will be subject to disciplinary action by the Board of Governors that may include the suspension of all Club privileges. The Club complies with all State and Local laws regarding the purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Any person who, in the sole determination of the manager on duty, appears intoxicated is subject to surrender of any remaining alcoholic beverage and will not be allowed to consume any alcoholic beverages for the remainder of the event. The manager on duty may request that the individual leave the property of the York Harbor Reading Room.
